Dear Nicky,
A year old! And what a difference a year makes. A year ago you were a tiny little bundle and now you’re almost walking and are working very hard at growing up to be a little boy as fast as you can. A year later it’s hard to imagine life before you were born. A few things that have changed:
- The words “sleeping in” now mean waking up at 7am.
- Coming home from work used to be relaxing. Now we come home and you keep us running in circles for another couple hours and then we have to make dinner, eat, and clean the house. By the time all that is done we just fall into bed immediately.
- We used to pick restaurants based on the quality of food they offered; now we pick based on whether they offer crayons. And forget going out to dinner at 8pm. Now, we aim for 5:30pm to make sure we can make it out of there before your bedtime, thereby avoiding any embarrassing meltdowns.
- We used to work ourselves to the bone doing errands and chores on the weekends. Now we spend our weekends at parks and children’s museums and zoos. You’ve reminded us to take ourselves less seriously and to focus on what’s important in life.
For all the unexpected changes, we wouldn’t trade it for anything. You’ve made the last year so much fun!
Love, Mommy
