Sweet Little Kate,
This month was one of those explosive milestone months. You learned multiple new skills each week and have been so happy with all the new doors that are now open to you. The first week you learned how to sit up from laying down, how to scoot around, and how to get up on your hands and knees. You were such a little wiggle worm once you added all of those new tricks that you suddenly couldn’t stand being rocked to sleep any more; you couldn’t stop moving long enough to fall asleep. So you also started falling asleep on your own for naps (which you’ve been doing for months at school, but refused to do at home).
The second week you learned how to crawl. And how exciting that was! You crawl around like a little crab with one leg stuck straight out to the side, which is just about the most adorable thing you’ve ever seen. You’re driving your poor brother crazy now that you’re mobile enough to mess with his toys. On the other hand, you’re so very pleased that you can play with everything he’s playing with and you follow him around like a puppy.
The third week you started pulling up and really mastered crawling. You love exploring all the parts of the house you haven’t gotten to spend much time in. You absolutely love the bathroom, which I just can’t understand. I feel like I’m constantly pulling you out of there. If it’s not the bathroom, you’re finding cords to play with or shoes to teeth on or kitty food to eat. You’re definitely keeping us on our toes!
The fourth week you gave us a huge present by learning how to sleep through the night! I have to admit, the only reason you learned this skill this week was because you finally wore down mommy and daddy, so we decided to let you cry it out. The first night was so hard – you cried your poor little heart out for 30 minutes and it broke my heart to hear it. But then you suddenly fell asleep. The second night you cried for 10 minutes and then we were all back asleep. And the third night you didn’t wake up at all! Yay! It was so hard to do, but I’m glad we did it. I can’t tell you how good it feels to get a whole night of sleep. Hopefully you like it as much as we do!
I love seeing you learn on your own and also seeing you learn from your brother. You’re always watching and mimicking him. When Nicky’s laughing at something you always want in on the joke. You’re amazing the ladies at daycare because you’re already playing with other kids instead of just playing side by side with them, which probably has a bit to do with you being so careful to watch everything that your brother does and doing your best to keep up.
I can’t even start to tell you how much fun it is to watch you learn all of these new skills. I’m so proud of you and love seeing how happy you are to be practicing your new tricks!
Love you so much!
Mommy
