24 Months

Dear Kate,

You’re two! How did that happen? Just two short years ago we brought you home and you made our family complete. It feels like just yesterday but at the same time I can’t remember what it was like before you were here. Where did the time go since then?

You’re growing up so quickly, it feels like you’re speeding past your milestones. You started preschool this month, which was a really big deal to mommy and daddy, but didn’t phase you for a second. We were expecting a long transition period like we had with Nicky, but you were so ready. Daddy dropped you off the first day and thought you hadn’t heard him when he said goodbye before he left. But he repeated himself, twice, and you were so busy playing that you didn’t care at all. He expected that when he actually left the room you would finally get upset, but you didn’t look back once and you didn’t even cry all day. You were so excited to finally be at preschool and you loved your big girl butterfly lunchbox so much that you didn’t put it down for two days straight. Nicky took such good care of you too, showing you everything and playing with you every chance he got.

You loved your birthday party too. You are such a social little girl and so confident. Your party was at a little gymnastics place and you were right up there with the big kids exploring all the obstacles and gymnastics gear. Being the center of attention didn’t throw you off one little bit, you loved it!

You suddenly feel like a big girl. You’ve been insisting on dressing yourself lately and picking out your clothes. You also love to pick out clothes for your baby doll to wear, and she gets some pretty fantastic outfits. You insist that she needs diapers and as soon as she gets one on you announce that she’s “stinky” and run off to go change her. I think we need to work on potty training the baby doll soon, she takes a lot of work! You’re fascinated with the potty yourself right now and are busy getting ready to learn how to use it. We’re not quite there yet, but we’re getting close!

One babyish habit you’re clinging to is your pacifiers. I can barely get dinner in you because your nana is firmly jammed in your mouth from the moment we get home to the moment you fall asleep. You’re always so tired from playing at preschool that you would much rather snuggle and suck on your nana than you would sit at the table and eat. I don’t know what we’re going to do about those pacifiers, but enjoy them now while you can because they’re going away soon!

Now that you’re two we’re officially out of babies. Part of me is sad about that, but I’m also so excited to now have two preschoolers! What fun we will have in this next stage!

Love you so much little bug,
Mommy
