15 Months

January 27, 2013

Sweet baby Kate,

This month finally has been our month of sickness. You survived the first 10 months of daycare with maybe one sick day, but so far this month you (and all of the rest of us) have been in and out of school. I think we’ve already had 4 sicknesses in our house so far this month, although they’re all running together so it’s hard to tell. To top off all the nasty colds and flus that are going around, you’re also teething and have two new teeth coming in. So 2013 has pretty much been a bummer for you so far. I’m sure we’ll turn it around, but for now you are a pretty miserable thing. You’re more cranky and prone to temper tantrums this month, you’re waking more during the night, and for a while you were getting up for the day at 4:45 (thank goodness that’s done!). Oh, and those baths that you loved so much up until last month are suddenly TORTURE for you – you start screaming as soon as we say the “b” word and try just about everything to get out of there as fast as you can. We’re lucky if we can get a quick 5 second soap down in. We’re not sure what happened, but I’m hoping you start feeling better about things soon, because bath time is one of my favorites!

Eating is still one of our big challenges. You would still survive on Cheerios, yogurt, and chicken nuggets if I let you. Pasta and meats are nearly impossible and you adamantly refuse to eat any whole fruits or vegetables, although I’ve been able to sneak quite a few into your diet without you knowing through baby food squeeze packs, vegetable juice/smoothies and soup. I’ve been known to feed you chocolate (your very favorite food) just to get a few extra calories in you. As a result, you’re still a little bean pole, which probably isn’t helped by the fact that you’re juggling being sick with running around as fast as you can trying to keep up with Nicky.

This month is really all about survival, so I’m sorry I don’t have more fun stories to report this month, but I’m sure things will start looking up soon. Pretty soon we’ll be immune to every sickness known to man, so we should start having more fun very soon!

Love, Mommy
